Tripp is the boy I kept from Taryn's first litter by NFC/FC/AFC Shambo's Dark Shadow. He is an absolute sweetheart who's impossible not to love, and a bang-up bird dog to boot. He was the most consistent of the litter in juvenile field trial stakes, placing in nearly every Puppy & Derby stake he ran, no matter how many dogs he competed against.
After spending the fall of 2009 learning on wild birds in Idaho, hunting regularly with a friend and getting some good house time, Tripp was back to the field trial scene in 2010. He earned the Runner-Up spot at the ABC Western Gun Dog Futurity, and then placed in every trial following, culminating with back-to-back wins in Texas -- 1st in the ABC Central Gun Dog Futurity and 1st in Open Derby at West Texas to finish up his juvenile field points! Tripp is just reaching maturity and proving to be a big running, hard pointing, high class bird finding machine who almost never goes birdless. His first and last points towards his Field Championship were breeder-owner-handled, but credit for all of the work that went into his title, and winning the majority of his points, goes to his trainer and handler, Ed Tillson.
At the end of the 2014 spring season, Tripp embarked on a new stage of his journey. Jim Austin of Colorado came on as Tripp's primary owner, with me as co-owner. In addition to continuing with Tripp's field trial career, Jim and Tripp also got to do some hunting in the off-season. Tripp finished 2014 ranked 7th in the Magnum's Masked Man top Brittany gun dog award rankings, and in 2015 finished the spring leading the rankings! He finished his Amateur Field Championship in February, handled to points towards the title by myself, Jim, and Matt Harris.
Tragically on October 15, 2015 my trailer caught on fire while I was driving on the highway, and I was burned while trying to rescue the dogs from the back of my trailer. Tripp, his sister Tristyn, and a youngster out of Tango did not escape the fire. We are devastated at their loss. We will always remember Tripp for his sweetness and as a strong competitor who gave us so much to be proud of. Although Tripp was not able to finish out the season, he still ranked 4th in the Magnum's Masked Man award standings for 2015. Thank you to Jim Austin for sharing in his memories along with me and giving Tripp some extra good times.
