Taryn was an unexpected but very lucky find. When
I found out a daughter of Bonz & Katie (two dogs dear to my heart)
had a litter sired by the extraordinary Dual & National Field Champion
Tequila's Joker ("TJ"), I was immediately interested. I wasn't
looking for another dog, but I couldn't have found better if I'd tried.
Taryn is everything I didn't even know I wanted in a Brittany, and my
perspectives have changed in many ways because of her.
TJ's owner Ed
Tillson first saw her run in January 2004, and offered to come on
board as her co-owner, trainer and handler. They made an immediate bond
and Taryn won her first two Derby stakes with Ed, plus another the next
month to finish off her Derby career. She then came home to finish her
show championship, which was easily accomplished. She has since been back
in the field with Ed, and has proven herself to be a strong All Age contender
in even the toughest competition. Taryn is a 2x American Field Champion
and 3x Runner-Up Champion, completed her Amateur Field Championship in
March 2006 and her Dual Championship in January 2007 by winning the New
Mexico Brittany Classic (1-hour stake). Her hour stake win record continues
to grow each season. Ed made the decision to "go pro" as a field
trainer & handler in 2007 and signed off as Taryn's co-owner, but
continues as her trainer, handler and friend. I get to run Taryn in the
Amateur All Age stakes myself now!
Taryn
won the American Brittany Club National Dual Award for
2005 by placing 1st in Field Trial Bitch & winning an Award of Merit
at the ABC National Specialty Show, then placing 4th in the National Open
All Age Championship! She followed in the footsteps of her sire, Hall
of Fame member NFC/DC/AFC
Tequila's Joker, who won the Dual Award in 1997.
In 2007, Taryn repeated her national wins and then some!
She placed 1st in Field Trial Bitch & won an Award of Merit at the
ABC National Specialty Show, and placed 4th in the National Open All Age
Championship out of 70 starters! This earned her a second American
Brittany Club National Dual Award, as well as the Christy
Feather Duster Award for the highest placing bitch in the National
All Age Championships! Taryn is only the third dog in history to win the
ABC National Dual Award twice, and the first female to do so. Her complete
win record is shown farther down this page.
Taryn had a break for several months in the spring/summer
of 2007 as she was treated for actinomycosis
(a very serious microbial infection in the chest). This required months
of heavy medication and rest, and precluded her spring 2007 litter. She
was back on the field trial circuit in Fall 2007, made another great showing
at the 2007 Nationals, and in Spring 2008 earned 5 more hour stake placements,
including Top Qualifier and Runner-Up at the very demanding and prestigious
US Open Championship! Watch her progress in the hunt for the 2008
Purina All Age Award here.
Taryn finished up a successful Spring 2008 season by winning
the Nebraska Championship, while she was 4 weeks pregnant with her first
litter! Her puppies by NFC
FC AFC Shambo's Dark Shadow were born May 17, 2008. Click
